Looking for a fun, free way to keep reading, learning, and exploring all summer long? Join the 2026 Summer Reading Program at the Upper Skagit Library Summer Reading Program 2026!
Whether you’re a child, teen, or adult, there’s something for everyone. Participants can:
✅ Track their reading progress
✅ Earn prizes and rewards throughout the summer
✅ Attend special library programs and events
✅ Complete fun challenges and activities
✅ Discover new books, stories, and adventures
Reading during the summer helps prevent learning loss, builds imagination, and creates lifelong readers. Best of all, it’s a great way to stay connected with your community while having fun! 📖✨

Let’s read, explore, create, and grow together this summer! 🌳📚☀️
For each completed reading log from Upper Skagit Library, a tree will be planted by Skagit Land Trust!
Level 1 of the Summer Reading Program is to register – this lets us know how many people are participating, which helps us prepare our supplies! When you sign-up kids and teens will receive a free book and everyone will get a USL tote bag and can choose from a croc charm, a D20, a video game controller fidget toy, or a video game pop-it for their starter prize. (Our youngest patrons will get to choose from a selection of finger puppets!)
Our Summer Reading Program is made up of many different activities including programs and special events, crafts, Storytimes, and reading challenges. Participation in the program will give you the opportunity to win prizes. The more you participate the more you can potentially win!
New this year you can choose to experience SRP through Beanstack, an online app, or through paper. Ask staff for more info if you’re not sure which way you prefer to participate.
If you choose to adventure with Beanstack you can keep track of your reading and earn badges as you do so! On Beanstack you can also write reviews and keep track of your Side Quest progress to potentially earn extra loot!
If you choose to adventure with pen and paper be sure to grab one of our paper trackers as well as one of our Side Quest sheets (both available en español). For both adventuring paths, don’t forget your Loot Quest card!
Once a month we’ll be having a Level-up Event where, if you demonstrate progress in your reading log, you’ll be able to choose another croc charm or D20 or fidget toy.
If you participate in our Side Quest challenge and complete all of the tasks you will be entered into a Grand Prize Loot raffle!

Help us celebrate the beginning of the Summer Reading Program by joining us and musician Ian Dobson, who will lead us in a Steel Drum Party at the Concrete Theatre! Admission by donation, with proceeds to be split between the Upper Skagit Library Friends and the Concrete Theatre’s Act Up Youth Theatre Program!
We’re partnering with Skagit Land Trust again this year to bring another StoryTrail to Barr Creek!
This year’s book is “One Day This Tree Will Fall” by Leslie Barnard Booth, and will be available in both English and Spanish on the trail all summer long!

Mess Makers – Libraries Love Lakes edition 2-4pm:
Skagit County Public Works will be joining us for a special lake-themed Storytime and will be helping us make some ooblec for a cool water/algae bloom simulation experiment!
Drop-in Resource Fair 5:30pm-7pm:
Skagit County Public Works will be setting up stations in the library that highlight local lakes, lake stewardship, practical actions people can take to improve water quality, and more! Explore at your own pace, learn about local natural history, and connect with the resources most relevant to you!
Upper Skagit Library will join the community in celebrating upriver youth and have an info and activity booth at Concrete Youth Activity Day!
2025 marks the 18th year of Concrete Youth Activity Day! Spend the day with us exploring a wide range of activities – playing games, winning prizes, learning about community resources, and enjoying a yummy lunch courtesy of the Concrete Lions Club. Last year, we had over 40 organizations and activities for families, and this year, we hope to have even more! New this year, there will be fun activities at the Concrete Bike Park. Everything is free, thanks to the generous donations of local organizations and partners. Bring the family and enjoy a fun afternoon at Silo Park.
This event is organized by the Concrete Resource Coalition and United General 304.
Join us on Thursday, July 17th from 10am-2pm at Silo Park!
We’re bringing our Polaroid Photo Booth back for year two!
This time we’re going to add more color to our photos by using color powder in our photoshoots so wear clothes that can get messy!
We’ll also be bringing giant board games like Connect Four and Sorry! and will have a booth where we’ll be sharing info about the library, Summer Reading 2025, and our upcoming Levy Lid Lift ballot initiative.
Join us for some messy fun! Families are welcome to join us as we do all of the fun crafts you’re too afraid to do at home because of how hard the clean-up is! All materials provided, but make sure you wear clothes that are okay to get messy!
In June Mess Makers will be from 2-4:30pm; times for Mess Makers in July will be announced at the end of June.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Skagit County’s Concrete group helped set up our Skagit Land Trust StoryTrail! They’ll also help us create photobooth props for Concrete Youth Activity Day!
