Library Telescope

The Upper Skagit Library's Library Telescope is part of the Library Telescope program, and was donated by the Island County Astronomical Society.

Our Orion StarBlast 4.5″ Telescope is available for three weeks at a time for patrons who are 18 years of age and older. Younger patrons must be accompanied by an adult who has checked out the telescope when using it.

When transporting the telescope, be sure to strap it into your vehicle using a seatbelt, as shown by staff. Damage to the telescope will result in a $350 fine.

Here’s how to use the telescope.

WARNING: DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN WHEN USING THE TELESCOPE. DOING SO CAN RESULT IN BLINDNESS.

Returning the Telescope

Want to assist staff when you return the telescope? Here’s what we’ll be looking for:

  • Clean eyepiece. Clean with soft cloth only.
  • Eyecup still attached to eyepiece.
  • Red dot finder turned off. (Let’s save the battery!)
  • All accessories present and accounted for.
  • Mirror damage.
  • General Damage.
