A dragon has burnt down a nearby forest!
Join the Burlington Public Library Wizard, Central Skagit Library Druid, La Conner Swinomish Library Cleric, and Upper Skagit Library Bard in their quest to stop the dragon and replant the forest with magical trees! Each completed reading log, Side Quest, and Loot Quest card helps our heroes (and you)! Sign up, participate, and claim your prizes (and all six collectable bookmarks) at any participating library, and be sure to check out upcoming events at all locations!
For each completed reading quest by gamers from Upper Skagit Library, Burlington Public Library, Central Skagit Library, and La Conner Swinomish Library, a tree will be planted by Skagit Conservation District at sites throughout the county, up to 500 trees. By reading, you’re leveling-up your skills and helping our community!
Step one of the Summer Reading Program is to register – this lets us know how many people are participating, which helps us prepare our supplies! When you sign-up kids and teens will receive a free book and everyone will get a USL tote bag and can choose from a croc charm, a D20, a video game controller fidget toy, or a video game pop-it for their starter prize. (Our youngest patrons will get to choose from a selection of finger puppets!)
Our Summer Reading Program is made up of many different activities including programs and special events, crafts, Storytimes, and reading challenges. Participation in the program will give you the opportunity to win prizes. The more you participate the more you can potentially win!
New this year you can choose to experience SRP through Beanstack, an online app, or through paper. Ask staff for more info if you’re not sure which way you prefer to participate.
If you choose to adventure with Beanstack you can keep track of your reading and earn badges as you do so! On Beanstack you can also write reviews and keep track of your Side Quest progress to potentially earn extra loot!
If you choose to adventure with pen and paper be sure to grab one of our paper trackers as well as one of our Side Quest sheets. For both adventuring paths, don’t forget your Loot Quest card!
Once a month we’ll be having a Level-up Event where, if you demonstrate progress in your reading log, you’ll be able to choose another croc charm or D20 or fidget toy.
If you participate in our Side Quest challenge and complete all of the tasks you will be entered into a Grand Prize Loot raffle!
Each time gamers use an in-building library service (checking out items, attending programs, using the computer lab, etc…) they can ask a Library Keeper for a stamp! Collect 10 stamps and a Library Keeper will bestow a croc charm, D20, video game controller fidget toy, or pop-it upon you AND conjure a raffle ticket in your name for our Grand Prize Loot!
As always, activities and events are subject to change at a moment’s notice!
To stay up to date on dates, times, locations, etc., keep an eye on our website, email newsletter, social media, or sign-up for our SMS Advertising Service.
We will have a booth at Silo Park where all the fun will be and we’ll have a photo booth (with props!) and will be taking Polaroid photos, sharing info about SRP, and signing folks up for cards. We might even have loot and crafts! Who knows what the dice decide?!
Thank you so much to the organizations that help make SRP possible through funding, volunteering, and other forms of support!
This year we want to give huge shoutouts to the Upper Skagit Library Friends, Puget Sound Energy, and 5b’s Bakery!
