It’s spooky time! …And also time to get back on track!

For me personally, September always feels like a sigh of relief. The weather is cooler, the busy chaos of summer tends to slow down…This year, however, the sigh felt more like one of frustration. September brought a lot of program cancellations, late starts, early closures, and even planned closures. It’s been tough to keep up with everything and it’s absolutely been a hard mental shift from busy summer to less productive September. We’re hoping to get everything back on track and running smoothly in October and thank you for your patience as we make the attempt!

Speaking of patience, our Upriver Young Authors have been wonderful in that regard; unfortunately we have to ask it of you once more. Our rescheduled September date for the Author Event and Q&A had to be put off yet again because things on the staff end still weren’t ready for publication. Publication can be a long and tough process and we’re certainly getting a good taste of that! We’re hoping to get a few more workshops in re: marketing as we prepare the book for printing, but we’ll hold off on announcing any dates until we’ve made some more progress. For participants, make sure you’ve given us your email so that we can keep you updated! We know we are all excited about celebrating your hard work at the end of summer, but let’s make sure we do this right, even if it takes longer.

On a more cheerful note, we’ve got some great workshops this month: PSE will be taking appointments to help patrons get signed up for their new Rate Discount program where those who qualify could get 5% – 45% off of their monthly bill (if you need help signing up ask staff!); for pre-teens and teens we’ll be joined by PFLAG after-hours on the 13th to talk about how and when to speak up against bullying; we’ll have a couple of activities based on the upcoming solar eclipse ;and I’m personally very excited about all of our “spooky time” crafts (for all ages!) and Storytimes. Also, keep your eyes out for some special Hispanic Heritage Celebrations this month – more details coming soon!

As usual, get all the details on programs, materials, services, Board of Trustees meetings, and more from our website, monthly calendar, email newsletter, and social media! You can find links to everything online at www.linktr.ee/upperskagitlibrary. We hope to see you soon!
